My sister threw an amazing Harry Potter birthday party for kids. She planned out all the party details, starting with the Harry Potter Birthday Party Invitations, for months. A Harry Potter birthday party this magical deserves to be shared!
I literally flew across the country to be able to help her make this party happen. We took lots of photos to help give you the best ideas for a Harry Potter party. For your convenience, we added links to click on directions and where to find Harry Potter party supplies, printables, and other things you may need to make your party happen.
Hand Lettered Platform 9 3/4 Sign
The morning of the party, we decided we needed to put a Platform 9 3/4 sign out at the street so our party guests would know where to go. This was the best I could do on short notice in a hurry! The Platform 9 3/4 Sign is hand lettered on ArtSkills Glitter poster paper with a black chisel tipped Sharpie marker.
But I am getting way ahead of myself. Let’s start at the beginning with our Harry Potter Party Invitation. Each child will receive a party invitation that looks like a Hogwarts Acceptance Letter! This magical invitation gets the party excitement started right away.
I created a printable Harry Potter birthday party invitation you can download for free. Print as many invites as you need. TIP: Print the invitations on Aged Parchment Paper for the most authentic look!
Hogwarts Acceptance Letter Birthday Party Invitation
I created 2 versions of the invitation. Version 1 (pictured above) is a Fillable Form PDF so that you can type in and add your party information to the highlighted areas. The second version is worded exactly the same, except you will need to fill in the blanks by hand.
I am happy to be able to provide my printable Harry Potter Invitations FREE for personal use only. Enjoy!
Version 1 (Fillable Form): Harry Potter Birthday Party Invitation Letter
*Note: You will need to download a free font called “Lumos” to match the font used in the Hogwarts letter. Download Lumos here.

Version 3 (Write-in Blank Spaces – No Lines): Harry Potter Party Letter Blank Write In No Lines
Hedwig Owl Balloons Craft
If you really want to wow your party invitees, personally deliver your invitations via Owl Mail with Hedwig the Owl! These DIY Hedwig Owl Balloons are so easy to make and such a creative, fun way to invite people to your Harry Potter party.
How To Make Hedwig Owl Balloons For “Owl Mail” Party Invitation Delivery
What You’ll Need:
- One 9-inch White Latex Balloon (per owl)
- Black Sharpie Marker
- Clear Tape
- Jute Twine or String
Directions:
Blow up a 9-inch white latex balloon (blow up with regular air, not helium.) Use a black permanent marker to draw simple owl features (eyes, nose, feathers, etc.) on the balloon. Roll up the invitation like a paper scroll and use a small piece of tape to secure it. Tie a length of jute string several inches long around the scroll, leaving enough length on one end to tie the scroll to the knotted part of the balloon. Harry Potter Birthday Party Food Ideas
What do you think of our Harry Potter Birthday Party ideas so far? Are you planning a Harry Potter themed party?
Gerri DiBartolo says
Hi! Thank you so much for these ideas! I would love to use your invitation for a party I’m planning around Halloween time but it won’t be a birthday celebration. Is there any way to delete that specific line? Alternatively, I could probably create my own invitation but I don’t know how to get the Hogwarts emblem onto a new file. Do you have any advice/suggestions? Thanks so much!
Nicole says
Hi Gerri – I got your message about the Harry Potter party invitation. Let me see if I can find my original file and delete the line about the birthday. If you have the Hogwarts emblem you want to use to create your own invitation, you should be able to insert it onto your document. I used Microsoft Word to create these, but you should be able to add the Hogwarts emblem image using other editing software.
I will try to find my editable invitation file and email it to you if I am able to get that birthday line deleted. Thank you for stopping by. Good luck with the party planning! –Nicole (at Mom Always Finds Out blog)

Hi thank you so much for the free invitation download. I was wondering if there was any way to get rid of the lines on Version one fillable invitation? I love the invitation but don’t like the lines still being there when I type in the information.
Nicole says
Hi Mandee – I don’t think it is possible for me to make a Fillable Form without the Lines (Sorry, I am not super knowledgeable on how to do that – it probably can be done, I just don’t know how.) I did edit the letter to totally remove the lines and just leave blank spaces where you can write in the information. It is now available on my blog post as Version 3 of the Harry Potter Invitation Letter. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. Good luck with your party plans! –Nicole

STEFANIE says
Love your ideas. Where did you get the food cards from? Thanks!
Nicole says
Thanks, Stefanie. The Harry Potter food cards can be found on Etsy. I’m not sure if these exact cards are still available, but if you search Etsy for “Harry Potter food labels” a lot of options will come up for you. The ones we used are blank printable cards, so you can print them yourself at home or have them printed at somewhere like The UPS Store. I used a black marker to fill them in with the names of the foods we served. Hope that helps! Let me know if there’s anything else I answer. –Nicole
