There’s a lot to love about the holiday season. One of my favorite things about it is spending time with friends and family that we may not see any other time of the year. I can’t wait to see my sister again – it’s been two years too long!
Early this summer, my family built an outdoor fireplace on our backyard patio. We invited people over from time to time to roast s’mores over the fire. Now that the chilly winter weather is here, we love to cozy up next to the warm fire, drinking hot chocolate together.
Whenever I think about a homemade hot chocolate recipe, I think about Hershey’s Cocoa Powder. The hot chocolate recipe on the back of the Hershey’s Cocoa Powder box is how I have made it for years. Until now.
As I was opening a new bag of the festive red, silver and green foil wrapped Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolate candies, I had a thought. My thought was pretty straightforward. It was, “I bet Hershey’s Kisses taste so good melted down to make hot chocolate.”
Turns out, I was right. The smooth milk chocolatey-ness of Hershey’s Kisses candies are perfect for making a creamy hot chocolate. I let the kids help me out a little bit in the kitchen. They love to unwrap Hershey’s Kisses. My 6-year-old told me (after unwrapping a whole bag of Kisses), “I like to help take the wrappers off, it’s fun.”
I bet you didn’t know this Fun Fact: The strip of paper that sticks up out of a Hershey’s Kiss wrapper is called a plume.
I have to agree, there is something satisfying about pulling the “plume” out of a Hershey’s Kisses candy wrapper.
We made Hershey’s Kisses hot chocolate for the first time a few days ago, and the recipe is definitely a keeper! I can’t wait to share it with you. And in fact, I think I’ll be sharing it with our friends as a holiday gift this year – a bag of Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolate candies along with this hot chocolate recipe is something everyone can enjoy. It’s the start of a new holiday tradition.
Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolates Hot Chocolate Recipe
Makes 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 30 Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolate Candies, unwrapped
- 2 cups Milk (we use 2% Milk)
- 2 cups Half-and-Half
- Whipped Cream
- Hershey’s Cocoa Powder
Directions:
1. Heat milk and half-and-half in a medium-sized saucepan on medium-low heat, stirring constantly to avoid scorching. You want the milk hot, but not boiling.
2. Once the milk mixture is heated, stir in the Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolate Candies. Continue stirring constantly until the Hershey’s Kisses candies are completely melted.
3. Pour into mugs. Top with Whipped Cream and a dusting of Hershey’s Cocoa Powder.
Note: It’s okay if there’s tiny flecks of Hershey’s Kisses chocolate floating around in the milk — whoever gets those in their cup is lucky! I know what you’re thinking. You’re wishing you had a bag of Hershey’s Kisses candies. You want to cozy up with a mug of this sweet hot chocolatey goodness. Go ahead, go to the store. Pick up a bag (or two) of Hershey’s Kisses chocolates. Let Hershey’s help you celebrate the best of the holiday season: family, friends…and lots of chocolate!

Great recipe!!!!
I do belive the tap at the top of the Hershey’s kiss is called a “niggly wiggly” which is also a lot more fun to say,as well!

It’s because that was the company’s way of flagging their candy so consumers would know that it was an original Hershey’s Kiss. The common little paper tail is known as a Niggly Wiggly.Jan 14, 2017 )
